Bathrooms

  • Neglecting to install GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) receptacles. These should be installed wherever there is a possibility of water coming into contact with your wiring or outlets.
  • Installing receptacles more than 3 feet away from the outside edge of the sink basin.
  • Placing receptacles on face-up countertops.

General Rooms

  • Spacing receptacles more than 12 feet apart.
  • Not having a receptacle on a wall space that is more than 24 inches wide.
  • No receptacles in hallways that are more than 10 feet long.

Kitchens

  • Not installing GFCI receptacles on countertops.
  • Installing receptacles more than 20 inches above the countertop.
  • Not placing at least one receptacle on an island or peninsula.
