Is Your Home Protected?

Did you know that if you get shocked from a GFI outlet, the breaker will shut itself off so you don’t get hurt? This is why it’s vital to install GFI outlets whenever an outlet is located near water.

Learn more about GFI outlets and other electrical safety devices below:

Is Your Home Protected? – GFI outlets are special devices designed to keep you from getting shocked. How does this happen? When you get shocked, you actually prevent the current from returning to the breaker. Believe it or not, the breaker is smart enough to recognize that no electricity is returning and it will shut itself off.

On the other hand, if you were to get shocked by a standard outlet the breaker would not turn off as fast. This process could take longer than 60 seconds, and in an instance where you are getting shocked this will feel like a lifetime.

3 Types Of GFCI Protection:

  • Receptacle Type
  • Circuit Breaker Type
  • Portable Type

Outdoor Electrical Outlet Safety

Have an electrical outlet located outdoors? You may have seen a large plastic cover over it to protect it from the elements. This is called an In-Use Cover. How does it work? You plug in your cord, and there is a space for the wire so the cover can close over the cord and the outlet. When its raining outside, water will not be able to get in and corrode your wires or your outlet.

At Lon Lockwood Electric, safety is one of our top priorities. If you have any questions regarding electrical devices and proper usage, feel free to give us a call.
