Your Guide To Pathway Lighting

The summer is filled with fun in the sun, but why stop once the sun goes down? Pathway lighting can help keep the party going through the night! Don’t let another summer night go by without illuminating your home with proper pathway lighting!

Which bulb is the best option?

  • Incandescent bulbs: are relatively inexpensive and cast a traditional, warm light, but are not very energy efficient.
  • LED bulbs: are today’s most energy-efficient light bulbs that use roughly 75 percent less energy and can last 25 times longer than incandescent lighting. They can spread electricity evenly down a row of lights so your pathway lighting will have the same brightness from beginning to end.
  • Halogen and fluorescents: are also energy efficient, come in a variety of styles or shapes, and will provide quality light.

What are the different types of pathway lights?

  • Step lighting: perfect for decoration and safety. Step lighting can be placed into step risers, underneath railings, and as surface lights on vertical posts to let yourself and your visitors navigate with ease.
  • Spread lighting: a common technique used for pathway lighting because it is able to light up a wide area.
  • Lampposts: depending on the length of your pathway, you can use one or several lampposts as an alternative pathway lighting method.

Can pathway lights withstand the elements?

  • The better the quality of the pathway lights the longer they will be able to withstand certain weather situations. Depending on where you live you may choose a different lighting fixture. For example, LEDs do not release much heat therefore they will not be able to help melt snow and ice so someone in a colder area, like Rochester, must plan accordingly.

Pathway lighting is a small way to contribute a great deal to the style and safety of your home. Call Lon Lockwood Electric to take care of this project for you…and don’t forget to connect with us on Facebook too!
